I can't believe it has been two years since my last post. So much has happened, I graduated nursing school in October 2015, passed NCLEX in November 2015, started working in the Emergency Room of the local hospital January 2016.
I never thought before that I would like working in an ED, however for my senior preceptorship I was placed with an amazing nurse in a busy 30 bed ED. I learned so much over that 8 weeks. Found that the excitement and ever changing pace of the ED is exactly what I sought for my career. I was able to practice hands on skills during that time and boost my confidence as a nursing student preparing to step into the role of nurse.
In November 2015 we also had some updated family photos taken, boy has that boy grown! The photos were taken by the talented, Liz O. Photography!
Since the beginning of the year, I have been working full time in the ED, trying to learn as much as possible. It has been an amazing experience, I could not imagine doing anything else for the rest of my life. My team and management there are amazing. In my off time I have been reading and writing.
Ravensbruck was an exceptional read, explaining the fate of those held at the women's concentration camp of the same name. Most definitely an emotional read. Covering the women's stories from different angles. Following the different ethnic groups as they diverged onto the camps and how they worked among themselves and with other groups to survive.
Five Days at Memorial, was another interesting read, relating the story of Memorial Hospital staff and patients during hurricane Katrina and after the breach of the levees. Starting before the storm and covering through the Grand Jury investigation into the practices at the hospital during this critical time.
For the past few months, I have been working on writing my own short story/ novel/ manuscript. I never really know where it is going, but it has been very enjoyable just adding a bit here and there; seeing how the story evolves.
